Iconic Creative Portsmouth Souvenirs

Following on from the Creative Portsmouth book Deer Park Alpha and The University of Portsmouth are making Iconic Portsmouth Souvenirs to be made into necklaces and charm bracelets. These ‘Made in Portsmouth’ souvenirs will be sold in shops around Portsmouth.

These are currently under development and will be launched soon.

Blackwell’s Bookshop Portsmouth

More copies of the book have now been placed in Blackwell’s Academic Bookshop, Cambridge Road, Portsmouth. They have also been supplied with some limited edition screen prints of the poster for sale.

Copies of the book have been selling well. Limited numbers left. Get them while you can.

BBC Politics Show & Digital Arts Magazine

More PR for the book this week. I was interviewed about Creative Portsmouth by BBC South for the Politics Show to be shown on BBC 1 12 noon Sunday 15th May. They also filmed at aspex, Flo & Stan’s and Southsea Gallery on Albert Road and The Round Tower, Old Portsmouth.

The book was also featured in June’s edition of Digital Arts magazine which came out this week.

It is great to see the book getting such attention and also great for the creatives featured and the city. Thanks again for the support of The University of Portsmouth, I Love Dust and Portsmouth City Council.

Book selling well at The Strong Island Exhibition

The Strong Island Exhibition at The Round Tower, Broad Street, Old Portsmouth is on until 1st May. The book is selling well and you can see more work by the creatives featured in the exhibition. You can also buy limited edition screen prints of the poster.

Strong Island Exhibition

Come and see many of the creatives featured in the book at the Strong Island exhibition at The Round Tower, Old Portsmouth tomorrow. Launch night 15th April from 6-9pm.

“The iconic Round Tower in Old Portsmouth is to open to the public as a contemporary art gallery exhibiting work by local people. The project was made possible with University and Portsmouth City Council support and is the first time the tower has been used for this kind of enterprise in its 500-year history.
Over 30 local artists, designers, photographers etc from across the city are involved in using the tower’s extraordinary interior to showcase their work. The exhibition will display a range of creative work from photographs developed with fresh Southsea seawater to textiles woven with 100 year-old postcards.”

The exhibition is being launched on Friday 15 April from 6-9pm and the public are welcome. Refreshments will include a Strong Island beer and a Strong Island tea and there will be a range of products and artwork on sale from Aspex gallery, Bored of Southsea, Badger Press, Southsea gallery, Ooh La Lapin, Jodie Silsby, My Dog Sighs, Mark Persaud, The Caravan Gallery, Ben Hoath, James Weaver, French, The Tricorn Book, Deane Clarke’s Portsmouth book, Lorna Apps Woodland and the Creative Portsmouth Book.

The exhibition runs from 16 April – 1st May and is open from Tuesday – Sunday, 10am – 3pm.

The Round Tower will continue as an exhibition space after The Strong Island exhibition and details of future events will be available at www.theroundtower.co.uk

Creative Portsmouth book now in Flo & Stan’s

A wonderful new shop called Flo & Stan’s has opened up on Albert Road, Southsea, Portsmouth. The shop is a home boutique with products sourced from all over the world. Most of the items are one off’s and very rare. Lorna and Del have created something quite unique and it sits very well amongst all the other shops and businesses on Albert Road. They have also started to stock the Creative Portsmouth book. Lorna is also one of the artists featured.

Creative Portsmouth – Book travels to Trier, Germany

Back in November 2010 I spoke at the Creative Summit in Dusseldorf, Germany along with designers like John McFaul and Juergen Alker. Whilst there I met Annika Weber who very kindly took some photographs of her copy of the book around her local city, Trier.
